Robert Hunter was in Los Angeles taking classes with Scientology. Geoff Levin was a young folk player from San Jose. He later formed the rock band People! with his brother Robbie.
This is the only Garcia bluegrass performance to date that has almost the entire three recorded sets still existing. The tapes comes from two different sources.
Sets 2 and 3 often circulate as March 7, 1964
There are recordings of "Sweet Georgia Brown" and "Betty and Dupree" from Jorma's sets this night which circulate and have long been misidentified as performed by Pigpen.
Jorma Kaukonen was the opening act and performed with his brother Peter playing harmonica on several tunes.
