  • "Early in January, Bob Dylan had come to Front Street to hang and play for two days, just to see how things went. Among other things, they played the Beatles' 'Nowhere Man' together and discovered a unique chemistry, neither Dylan nor Dead" (McNally 2002, 563; see also Rense 19870419, 68).
  • Jesse Jarnow has hunted up a couple of news clippings about these sessions. One from The San Francisco Examiner on 1/30 reported that Bob Dylan was "hiding out in Marin all this week jamming with the Grateful Dead," while The San Francisco Chronicle reported on 2/1 "two days of jamming on blues tunes, old Beatles songs like 'Nowhere Man' and Dylan classics such as 'Maggie's Farm' reportedly left the group and Dylan more than satisfied." Dylan was spotted in LA on on 1/26 (checking out a band at a club, reported in newspaper), so pinning the sessions to these two dates involves a bit of guess work, and the songs we list are arbitrarily place on the 27th.
