Band rehearsals. McNally: "Early in March ('73) they were rehearsing at the Stinson Beach Community Center when an old friend, photographer Bob Seidemann, stopped by with Pigpen. Pig was extremely sick, with a damaged liver, and he had asked Bob for a ride so that he could have his picure taken with the band. In Seidemann's view, 'They coldly put him down, turned him away …'" (McNally, A Long Strange Trip, page 600). Ulli Teute, who brought this event to our attention, suggests early February is more likely, as the band would have been practicing the tunes it would bust out at Maples on the 9th. Either way, this is a placeholder date.
So, Seidemann says early March – but Pig died 03-08 … there aren't that many possible dates for a rehearsal before 03-08 in "early March"
I presume he may have meant early Febr – think about it: they must have rehearsed the 7 new tunes for the 02-09 gig
