Notes
  • The event was a taping for a broadcast performance by the New Riders of the Purple Sage and Shanti. When the taping was finished some musicians meandered into Mickey's barn where he had a modest recording studio set up.
  • Garcia says "I gotta go play" after "The Wall Song", per Nick, presumably referring to the NRPS gig at the Inn. The songs after Garcia leaves are listed in gray.
  • The personnel list is highly uncertain.
  • KQED-TV broadcast "A Day In The Country". A sub-one-minute video fragment has emerged, showing "Louisiana Lady", Freiberg chilling and listening, Croz coming out of the woods with a lissome ladyfriend.
  • lostlivedead: August 21, 1971: Mickey Hart's Ranch, Novato, CA: New Riders Of The Purple Sage/Shanti (TV Show)
  • Tons of great detail on people, etc., at nedbase, summarizing "Very high day for everyone. One of the very memorable days."
  • deadthinking: 8/21/71 setlist clarification
Historical
  • Death of George Jackson, American activist and author, co-founded the Black Guerrilla Family (b. 1941).
