review: [negative] Ron Ware, "Garcia Disappointing" [letter to the editor], Good Times, February 23, 1978, p. 4: we spent a bunch of money, didn't get our money's worth. Too long tuning up. Half hour break after playing only 45 minutes. "He just did not cut loose and boogie. Several people yelled out 'Wake us up' and 'Hey Jerry, we paid $7.50, come on and get it on!'" Songs got monotonous and repetitious: on the last song, "for 15 minutes all they sang was 'Hold me tight and don't let go.' It was enough to put us to sleep." Didn't like the ladies' singing. Some mention of Hunter as well.
review: [positive] Beebe 1978. JGB gives "Garcia a chance to vent his musical urges in a fresh and creative way". Opening w ISTE, STOF, and HTC: "These three very diverse opening tunes showed Garcia's deft versatility in many different modes of music - rhythm and blues, folk and reggae. Garcia doesn't cheaply recycle the music of others; but rather interprets It, much like a jazz artist might do".
