  • Sue: Contract p. 1 of 2 said "Merl Saunders, Jerry Garcia and Friends." For the two shows, band got $10,000 guarantee for plus 60% of gross receipts over $25,000, with a potential gross of $36,000. $5,000 advance to be wired by 10/29, "balance of guarantee plus applicable percentage prior to conclusion of engagement" (p.2). No extra for lights and sound, provided by employer. No drummer named on contract. "The $5,000 deposit shall be wired into the account of Merl Saunders, Redwood Bank, 1447 Fourth Street, San Rafael, California, acct. #01-02921-6. Opening attraction shall be James Cotton and shall be paid by employer" (contract p. 2 of 2). Band Rider, p. 2, para. 14: "Employer agrees that MERL SAUNDERS & JERRY GARCIA will be able to perform up to 120 minutes if they so desire". Monarch Rider: "Artist will not perform any other engagement located within a 75 mile radius of Passaic, New Jersey (with the exception of New York City and the counties of Nassau and Suffolk, Long Island, New York) for a period of 30 days prior to said engagement and 21 days afterwards" (p. 12, para. 12 under heading "Exclusivity").
  • Unknown account states The Weight was played on this night, but seems dubious. DB lists opening act as "Instrumentales Cotton".
  • Scher introduces Paul Humphries [sic] at the start of the late show on Slabicky's tape.
  • Ads in Village Voice (10/31/74, p. 76; 11/7/74, p. 70) bill "Jerry Garcia/Merl Saunders and Friends, featuring Bill Kreutzmann, John Kahn, Martin Fierro". This was the group that was scheduled to come on 2/16/74, which ended up canceled. In the meantime, Billy K was replaced first by Jimmy Nelson for a few shows, then by Paul Humphrey for six weeks before Ronnie Tutt arrived in early December.
