  • Yes, it's true that Jerry played Philly on 9/21 with the GD, this benefit gig in Berkeley on 9/22 with Merl, and was back with the Dead for their gig on the 23rd in Waterbury, CT. Selvin (1972b) notes this explicitly: "To play at [this gig] Garcia flew in from New York and out again the same night to rejoin the Dead on tour." Jazz trumpeter Luis Gasca is said to have played with Garcia (Mackay 1973), and it is possible that this was the night for that.
