  • Review: [negative] Anderson 1983. This is interesting because Anderson had been seeing JGB in Buffalo and writing show reviews since '75. Earlier reviews were positive about the music if sometimes lukewarm about the scene. Here is fully cynicized, snarking about the 60s vibe and the hour and 20-minute wait for the band past the ticketed start time. So I want to emphasize that this is not just your typical hippie-bashing. Anderson had earned the right to call things how he saw them, and he didn't dig it. "One of the backstage people said later [of the late start] that was just the way Jerry was feeling. Hey, do your own thing, man. Tune your guitar for a while. Take a half an hour break in the middle of things. Don't bother introducing [the band]. … After all, this was Jerry's show. He whined out the words to [various cover tunes] and he stretched them out to 10, 12 14 minutes apiece with the kind of solos that make you understand what infinity is all about, you know what I mean?"
