  • A new fiscal year must have brought in some Arista money, and on July 1st, 1977 the Jerry Garcia Band started recording Cats Under the Stars in, and while building, their homegrown, state of the art recording studio. It was a family affair for Jerry with John Kahn, Betty Cantor, and Keith and Donna Godchaux. It was a business proposition for Clive Davis at Arista. Robert Hunter wrote a great set of all-original material, homespun through and through. And it failed commercially. But not this day.
